The UK Biobank Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall management and operation of the organisation, with day-to-day running delegated to the Executive Leadership Team, led by our Chief Executive and Principal Investigator, Professor Sir Rory Collins.
The Board and its committees
The UK Biobank Board of Trustees is responsible for UK Biobank. Members bring expertise from across scientific, clinical, academic and industry backgrounds.
The Access Committee of the UK Biobank Board is responsible for making the key decisions about scientific access, notably those regarding the use of depletable samples or potentially contentious research.
The UK Biobank Audit and Risk Committee is responsible for keeping under review the adequacy and effectiveness of the organisation’s controls and risk management systems.
The UK Biobank Ethics Advisory Committee (EAC) provides advice to the Board on ethical issues that arise during the maintenance, development and use of UK Biobank.
The Information Governance Committee monitors and enhances UK Biobank’s overall strategy and operational methods of securely collecting, storing and distributing information.
Senior leadership
The Executive Team at UK Biobank lead and support staff across the organisation to deliver the strategic objectives of the organisation. They bring with them scientific knowledge, research focus and ambition to realise UK Biobank’s potential.
Advisory groups
The Participant Advisory Group plays a central role in ensuring UK Biobank is appraised of the views and opinions of UK Biobank participants.
The UK Biobank International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) provides advice, support and guidance to UK Biobank on overall scientific direction, strategy, opportunities and its mission.
The UK Biobank Strategic Oversight Committee acts as an adviser to UK Biobank’s Leadership team, providing expert knowledge on how to best achieve aims to enhance the dataset.
