The UK Biobank International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) provides advice, support and guidance to UK Biobank on UK Biobank’s overall scientific direction, strategy, opportunities and the furtherance of its mission.
The ISAB meets once a year for a two-day plenary.
Members give their time and expertise to the project freely and meet annually to discuss proposals that are pivotal in advancing the resource to deliver its strategy. Their broad skills and expertise ensure enhancements to UK Biobank meet the needs of the global research community, are scientifically relevant, and will meet the challenge of improving public health.

Professor Marylyn D. Ritchie chairs the UK Biobank International Scientific Advisory Board.
Professor Ritchie is a Professor in the Department of Genetics and Director of the Institute for Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She is also Co-Director of the Penn Medicine BioBank and Vice President of Research Informatics in the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
Professor Ritchie has over 20 years of experience in translational bioinformatics and has authored over 400 publications. Professor Ritchie was appointed as a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) in 2020. She was elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine in 2021.
